Son Bhandar,Rajgir















Son Bhandar,Rajgir(Bihar) is basically cave which was constructed by Jain Sage Vairadeva in 3rd-4th century for meditation purpose.But according to legend this cave was built by king Bimbisar to keep his treasure and still it is intact, that is the reason it is popularly known as Son Bhandar . Inside the cave there is two chambers were hollowed out of a single massive rock.In the doorway some inscriptions in the Sankhalipi or shell script etched into wall and it is believed that it is the only clue to open this treasure but yet no one able to open this treasure door. In Second chamber few traces of seated and standing guards etched into the outer wall.
About a mile south west of Son Bhandar caves is a spot locally known as" Akhara " battle field where people believe,the famous duel between Jarasandh and Bhimwas fought in The Mahabharat Period.
